The Colorado Hispanic History Museum, approved as a “Signature Initiative” by the America 250 Colorado 150 Commission on October 11, 2023, is set to be a groundbreaking project led by Colorado’s Latino/Hispanic communities. This museum will not only preserve and highlight the rich historical narratives of Hispanic heritage but also serve as a vibrant educational center. Situated in the heart of the Auraria Campus, it aims to become a cultural and educational cornerstone for both Colorado and the nation.
The Colorado Hispanic Museum is poised to become a central repository for stories that have too often been overlooked. By integrating these narratives into the broader historical discourse, the museum will enrich our understanding of American heritage and promote a more inclusive future.
To support this initiative, a separate 501c3 organization was established, as advised by the commission, to raise the necessary funds for the museum’s development. The 501c3 Board of Directors will collaborate with the developer and Auraria Higher Education throughout all phases of the project to bring the vision to life.
This project benefits from a strong partnership between the State of Colorado, the Colorado Hispanic/Latino Fund, and Auraria Higher Education, ensuring a solid platform for educating and empowering the public about the significant contributions of Hispanic/Latino communities.
